How to prepare subreddit alerts for Discord

By SubPeek · Updated

Use this guide to choose a Discord channel and prepare your subreddit alerts. SubPeek is currently invite-only, and live Reddit alerts will be available only after API access is approved.

What you need

  • Access to the SubPeek beta account dashboard.
  • A Discord server channel where you have permission to manage webhooks.
  • A public subreddit and optional include/exclude keywords.

1. Prepare the destination channel

In Discord, open the channel settings, then Integrations → Webhooks. Create a webhook for the intended channel and copy its URL. Discord documents the process in Intro to Webhooks. Anyone with the URL can post through it, so keep it private.

2. Configure a SubPeek alert

  1. Open your dashboard and create an alert.
  2. Enter a public subreddit name or URL. For example, use a community you already read.
  3. Add optional keywords. Matching ignores case and uses substrings; an exclude match takes precedence. Empty include keywords means all new posts in that subreddit.
  4. Under Send alerts to, select Discord and paste the webhook URL.
  5. Save the alert. SubPeek sends a short message so you can confirm it reaches the right channel.

You can save a Default Discord webhook in Settings to pre-fill future alerts. Check the selected channel each time; the default is a convenience, not a separate subscription.

3. Check your destination channel

Open the saved alert and choose Send test alert, then look for the sample message in your Discord channel. This is a connection check; live Reddit alerts remain unavailable during the current beta.

Timing and known limits

The planned check interval is 30 minutes on Free and 5 minutes on Pro. Pro is a planned paid tier, not currently on sale. Once live access is available, a matching post can be delivered only after a scheduled check finds it. Queues, retries or upstream failures may add delay. Initial polling establishes a starting point rather than importing all historical posts.

If a test fails

  • Confirm the URL is a Discord webhook URL and has not been revoked.
  • Check that the webhook still targets the intended channel.
  • Read the per-channel error in SubPeek; do not paste the private URL into public support messages.
  • If a URL was exposed, replace the webhook and update the alert before testing again.

For a different destination, see the Telegram guide. For current availability, use the About page.
